What to expect from Hypnotherapy
What happens at the initial hypnotherapy consultation?
During the initial consultation, we will be talking about what it is that you are struggling with, whether this is anxiety, insomnia, exhaustion or something specific that you are facing in your life at the moment. Then, even at this early stage you will be encouraged to think about what it is that you are seeking with this process and how hypnotherapy can help you.
We will then go on to the subject of neuroscience to give you a clearer understanding of why you are feeling the way that you do and what science tells us about why this is happening. Neuroscience is a vast and complicated subject, but we simplify the main concepts in a way to help you understand what is going on and more importantly how hypnotherapy and relaxation can help calm your mind.
“One of the most powerful aspects of the sessions that we offer is using the latest neuroscience to help the client understand why they are feeling the way that they do and to reassure them that those feelings are entirely natural. I have seen over and over again the enormous comfort that this brings to the client and the way that it empowers them to find a way to cope and move forward”
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis (or trance) is a deep form of relaxation. If you have ever tried meditation or been to a yoga class where the last 5 minutes is composed of a short relaxation with some fairy lights and soft music, then you have already experienced trance. You remain in complete control, and you are aware of everything that is happening. Trance is a very natural state (for example day dreaming) and occurs many times every day for each of us. During the sessions we use carefully crafted language patterns to encourage the client to relax and in doing so when we are relaxed, we are much more able to access the intellectual, problem solving areas of our minds. This is very different to ‘stage hypnosis’, which is purely carried out for entertainment only. There are no chicken impressions involved with what we do here!
The trance sessions provide a valuable space for you as the client to relax fully (and let’s be honest, how often do we get to do that in our busy lives?). Hypnosis gives you the experience of being very relaxed and calm, whilst remaining fully in control and aware of what’s happening. The science tells us that it is during those very relaxed moments that we are most able to come up with our own solutions and that’s the beauty of hypnosis in the therapy room.
Do you do hypnotherapy online?
The sessions are safe and effective online. The only requirements for online hypnotherapy are a quiet and relaxing space, a tablet, laptop or phone with a good internet connection. This provides a simple and accessible route to therapy, and many clients will of course enjoy the experience of being in their own home, without the need to travel. Online therapy can of course be particularly useful for clients with issues relating to anxiety about leaving their home. Get in touch to discuss this further or arrange an appointment.

Frequently asked questions
How many hypnotherapy sessions will it take?
The number of sessions varies and is dependent on the client’s problem. This will be discussed in the free initial consultation. You will also be given a free relaxation recording to listen to daily which will reinforce the work that we are doing together.
Will hypnosis solve my problem?
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a safe, modern and simple therapy, providing the client with a very gentle, pleasant experience of being deeply relaxed. Here the therapeutic alliance between the client and the hypnotherapist can be used most effectively to support the client with changes that they wish to make.
Is hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis?
No. Clinical hypnotherapy works on the basis of providing a safe & positive collaboration between the client and the hypnotherapist. When this happens positive change can be achieved quickly and sustained. There are no chicken impressions involved here whatsoever!
Is online therapy effective?
Our online therapy sessions are just as effective as the ones that take place in person. The availability of online sessions is often a distinct advantage for clients that are short of time or do not wish to travel, they can access the therapy in the comfort of their own homes.
